Tom Kuligowski - Tom is a gifted professional photographer and orchid grower. He has spoken at our club in the past about a variety of topics such as "What's light got to do with it?", successfully growing Angraecum orchids, and "Unusual and Natural Mounts" discussing which materials and mounts work best when mounting orchids. Tom has been specializing in growing Angraecum orchids since 2000.
Carol Holdren is a long time orchid lover with a history of participation in the affairs and activities of orchid societies. She bought a purple Vanda at a local botanical garden show. That plant lead to several others as well as membership and participation in Deerfield Beach Orchid Society.
Ken and Judy Russ
Ken an Judy have been growing orchids for about 17 years. They are growing about 900 orchids in a shade house, a lanai and a shaded "pine forest". Since 2004, their orchid shave received 30 AOS awards and on two occasions, Ken has won the AOS Show Trophy for the best orchid display in an orchid show. Ken has prepared a PowerPoint presentation about specimen plants in order to share how he and Judy grow their orchids, including tips they have found to be successful through the years. Join us for his informative and entertaining presentation. You will be sure to find it helpful in growing your own plants.
Thanh Nguyen of Springwater Orchids
Thanh is an owner-operator of Springwater Orchids in Melbourne, Florida. Thanh is an engineer by trade, and has been collecting and growing orchids for over 30 years. He began his orchid business in 2001 first selling on the Internet and more recently has expanded to orchid shows. Although Than grows and sells all orchid genera, his forte has always been Paphiopedilums. He is particularly enamored of species plants. His passion for Paphiopedilums has resulted in numerous award winning plants and an ongoing Paphiopedilum breeding program using local lab work and a local growing environment. His goals are to bring the excellence of a Paphiopedilum breeding program back to America , and augment the enthusiasm of Paphiopedilums growing by way of sharing his growing experience and educational programs via shows and society speeches. Thanh's program will provide you with all the information that you will need to make growing Paphiopedilums a joyful experience. Join us for a truly enjoyable talk.
Bill Thoms is an internationally recognized speaker, orchid hunter, breeder and grower extraordinaire. He will be presenting a talk on Bulbophyllums. This program covers everything you need to know to grow and bloom these fascinating plants. BIll Thoms and his wife Doris Dukes have been growing orchids around central Florida for more than 45 years and have received almost every award granted by the AOS as well as more Awards for Culture than anyone else in the world. Thoms is the only person to receive Awards of Quality for Bulbophyllum hybrids. The AOS has recently added a yearly award named for him for the best Bulbophyllum exhibited. His talks are peppered with funny stories and funny associations which result in a very entertaining and informative event. This is not to be missed!!!
Potting and Mounting Workshop-
We will be giving demonstrations on potting/repotting, and mounting orchids, as well as caring for your orchids. This meeting is always very helpful to new members as well as the more experienced members due to the friendly interactions and the free flow of information. If you have a plant to pot or mount, bring it along with a pot or mount and we will help you so you will feel empowered to repot and mount plants at home. We always have a great time at this meeting!!
Craig Morell -
Craig is currently the Horticulturist at Pinecrest Gardens. He's been renovating the Gardens since 2004, a year after the Village of Pinecrest bought the property from Parrot Jungle.
Craig is a lifelong plant collector with a yen for epiphytes. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture from UF-Gainesville. He has worked previously as Horticulturist at the Boca Raton Resort, and at an orchid company in West Palm Beach before that.
Craig is a career horticulturist, travels widely, and spends his free time orchidgardening at home in south Miami, scuba diving, photographing nature and visiting even more gardens.
He sometimes escapes from the Gardens and is occasionally seen in public masquerading as a normal person.
