Hyla Levine, owner of Green Barn Orchid Supplies in Delray Beach since 2004. Green Barn is a destination to buy every possible orchid supply available for all levels of orchid enthusiasts. Green Barn is also a place to go with questions about your orchids, get your orchids repotted, and find out orchid show information. Hyla will be speaking aboutenhancing your orchid growing with proper supplies and basic orchid care and repotting techniques. Silas Trevena,assistant manager for 6-1/2 years, will be doing the second part of the presentation about repotting and mounting orchids.

George Hatfield - George is the president of the American Orchid Society. He is the owner of Hatfield Orchids, a specialist in cymbidiums, owner of Hatfield Consulting, Agribusiness of award-winning cymbidiums, an International Scheduled speaker at 22nd WOC Guayaquil, Equador. He is an accredited AOS &CSA orchid judge. He is past-president of Santa Barbara International Orchid Show 2015-2016. He has ben a keynote speaker at the Australian National Orchid Conference 2009 in Melbourne. George has authored articles in Orchids magazine and Orchid Digest. He has 40+ years experience in growing orchids.

Chuck McCartney - Chuck's family moved to southern Dade County in 1918. He was raised in Homestead and became familiar with orchids because his uncle was a hobby grower and friend of legendary orchid grower/explorer Freddie Fuchs. There families have been friends across three generations. Chuck graduated high school with Robert Fuchs, now of the world-famous R.F. Orchids, and they remain friends to this day.

In 1984, Chuck joined the staff of the American Orchid Society as assistant editor of the societies publications. He eventually became editor of the AOS Bulletin and the AWARDS QUATERLY. In 1990, Chuck was hired as a copy editor with the Miami Herald. Chuck retired in 2009 and continues to live in Hollywood.

Chuck's special interest is in the native orchids of south Florida. For more than 20 years he has explored the pinelands, hammocks, swamps, and mangrove forests of the Keys, Everglades National Park, and the Big Cypress Swamp in search of native orchids. He has found and photographed most of the 60 species reported to be native to the southern end of the state. while doing so, he also photographed many beautiful, and sometimes not so beautiful wildflowers.

Chuck has also studied orchids and other wildflowers in the mountains of western North Carolina, and he has written about the orchids of the region.

In addition to his magazine articles, Chuck frequently speaks to orchid societies, native plant societies, garden clubs, and natural history groups. his lectures have taken him to 16 Florida counties and three other states.

Chuck is a longtime member of both the American Orchid Society and the Florida Native Plant Society, and he recently joined the Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society.

Tom Kuligowski - Tom is a gifted professional photographer and orchid grower. He has spoken at our club in the past about a variety of topics such as "What's light got to do with it?", successfully growing Angraecum orchids, and "Unusual and Natural Mounts" discussing which materials and mounts work best when mounting orchids. Tom has been specializing in growing Angraecum orchids since 2000.

Carol Holdren

Carol Holdren is a long time orchid lover with a history of participation in the affairs and activities of orchid societies. She bought a purple Vanda at a local botanical garden show. That plant lead to several others as well as membership and participation in Deerfield Beach Orchid Society.

As her collection grew, she and some of her friends took a class in Orchidology at the University of Florida. Carol also began attending the West Palm Beach Judging Center and became an accredited judge in 2003. She is presently Vice-Chair of the West Palm Beach Judging Center as well as a director of the International Orchid Foundation whose free website is Orchids.org.

Carol will be speaking on "Orchid Judging", a program to help you get ready for the upcoming shows.

Ken and Judy Russ
Ken an Judy have been growing orchids for about 17 years. They are growing about 900 orchids in a shade house, a lanai and a shaded "pine forest". Since 2004, their orchid shave received 30 AOS awards and on two occasions, Ken has won the AOS Show Trophy for the best orchid display in an orchid show. Ken has prepared a PowerPoint presentation about specimen plants in order to share how he and Judy grow their orchids, including tips they have found to be successful through the years. Join us for his informative and entertaining presentation. You will be sure to find it helpful in growing your own plants.

Thanh Nguyen of Springwater Orchids
Thanh is an owner-operator of Springwater Orchids in Melbourne, Florida. Thanh is an engineer by trade, and has been collecting and growing orchids for over 30 years. He began his orchid business in 2001 first selling on the Internet and more recently has expanded to orchid shows. Although Than grows and sells all orchid genera, his forte has always been Paphiopedilums. He is particularly enamored of species plants. His passion for Paphiopedilums has resulted in numerous award winning plants and an ongoing Paphiopedilum breeding program using local lab work and a local growing environment. His goals are to bring the excellence of a Paphiopedilum breeding program back to America , and augment the enthusiasm of Paphiopedilums growing by way of sharing his growing experience and educational programs via shows and society speeches. Thanh's program will provide you with all the information that you will need to make growing Paphiopedilums a joyful experience. Join us for a truly enjoyable talk.

Bill Thoms
Bill Thoms is an internationally recognized speaker, orchid hunter, breeder and grower extraordinaire. He will be presenting a talk on Bulbophyllums. This program covers everything you need to know to grow and bloom these fascinating plants. BIll Thoms and his wife Doris Dukes have been growing orchids around central Florida for more than 45 years and have received almost every award granted by the AOS as well as more Awards for Culture than anyone else in the world. Thoms is the only person to receive Awards of Quality for Bulbophyllum hybrids. The AOS has recently added a yearly award named for him for the best Bulbophyllum exhibited. His talks are peppered with funny stories and funny associations which result in a very entertaining and informative event. This is not to be missed!!!
